Initiative overview

Understanding the initiative

The Africa Civil Society Initiative on AML/CFT co-founded by Civic Advisory Hub (Uganda) and Spaces for Change (Nigeria) works to strengthen civil society’s expertise, participation, and influence in shaping policies and frameworks that safeguard both financial integrity and human rights. It provides a platform for advocacy, knowledge-sharing, and multi-stakeholder engagement, ensuring that African perspectives particularly those from grassroots and rights-based groups are represented in regional and global AML/CFT forums.

Globally, Anti-Money Laundering, Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT), and combating Illicit Financial Flows (IFFs) efforts remain heavily dominated by government and intergovernmental actors—often sidelining civil society voices. In response, this initiative was founded to bridge this gap.
