Following a 90-day pause on foreign aid initiated in January 2025 to assess alignment with President Donald Trump's "America First" foreign policy, the U.S. officially canceled 83% of the USAID programs on March 10, 2025. This decision affected approximately 5,200 contracts, impacting numerous NGOs globally.
The Not-for-Profit sector, especially in Africa, has long recognized the risks and conditions attached to reliance on international aid and has advocated for funding diversification. However, this new development has made the need for alternative funding strategies more urgent than ever.
In response, Civic Advisory Hub and Humentum will host a webinar to engage NGO leaders, actors, and stakeholders on strategies to navigate the evolving landscape, build resilience, and establish efficient financial accountability systems.
1. To equip NGOs with knowledge and strategies to implement an efficient and harmonized financial accountability system that meets the needs of their organizations, boards, stakeholders, and funders for financial resilience and sustainability.
2. To enhance NGOs' capacity for independent financial decision-making by providing tools for effective resource allocation.
3. To share knowledge and real-world experiences on locally led initiatives and strategies for navigating the challenges of a shrinking funding landscape.
Improved Financial Accountability – NGOs will establish efficient financial accountability systems that meet the needs of their organizations, boards, stakeholders, and funders.
